Wow, hiss and the softness of a reel
A reel of tape: the soft saturation of the recording, the hiss of the stock, and the roll-off that takes the edge off the top. The lo-fi stage. DRIVE here is tape-shaped, flattering rather than fizzy.
As REEL: X is DRIVE, Y is ROLLOFF. Touch to engage, lift to let go, HOLD to keep it.
Four to a socket, in order: sound runs through the slots top to bottom. Open the box and every knob is in real units; BYPASS takes it out of the path without losing its settings; the presets are along the top; any knob learns a controller and gets an automation lane.
| Knob | Range | Starts at | Scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| DRIVE | 0 dB to 24 dB | 6 dB | linear |
| HISS | 0 to 1 | 0.1 | linear |
| ROLLOFF | 2000 Hz to 20000 Hz | 9000 Hz | log |
| LEVEL | -12 dB to 12 dB | -3 dB | linear |
Every box ships with a bank. AS SET is the knobs as you left them; the rest are starting points, each a sound someone wanted often enough to name. Star one and it sits at the front of the bank.
| Preset | DRIVE | HISS | ROLLOFF | LEVEL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CLEAN | 2 dB | 0.05 | 14000 Hz | -1 dB |
| WARM | 6 dB | 0.1 | 9000 Hz | -3 dB |
| HOT | 12 dB | 0.15 | 7000 Hz | -5 dB |
| SMASHED | 20 dB | 0.2 | 5000 Hz | -8 dB |
| OLD | 8 dB | 0.5 | 4500 Hz | -3 dB |
| HISSY | 4 dB | 0.9 | 8000 Hz | -2 dB |
| BRIGHT | 6 dB | 0 | 18000 Hz | -3 dB |
Every box is also a line of the console's language, so a pad or a patch can carry its effects in text. The words are the knobs:
