Fewer bits and a slower clock
Fewer bits and a slower clock: BITS from sixteen down to two, DOWN dividing the sample rate by up to sixty-four. The sound of memory running out. On a drum it is grit; on a pad it is a texture; at the extremes it is a different instrument.
As CRUSH: X is DOWN, Y is BITS; As DUST: X is BITS, Y is DOWN. Touch to engage, lift to let go, HOLD to keep it.
Four to a socket, in order: sound runs through the slots top to bottom. Open the box and every knob is in real units; BYPASS takes it out of the path without losing its settings; the presets are along the top; any knob learns a controller and gets an automation lane.
| Knob | Range | Starts at | Scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| BITS | 2 to 16 | 8 | linear |
| DOWN | 1 x to 64 x | 4 x | linear |
Every box ships with a bank. AS SET is the knobs as you left them; the rest are starting points, each a sound someone wanted often enough to name. Star one and it sits at the front of the bank.
| Preset | BITS | DOWN |
|---|---|---|
| 16-BIT | 16 | 1 x |
| 12-BIT | 12 | 1 x |
| 12-BIT LO | 12 | 3 x |
| 8-BIT | 8 | 4 x |
| CRUNCHY | 6 | 6 x |
| ALIASED | 12 | 16 x |
| DUST | 4 | 12 x |
| RUBBLE | 3 | 24 x |
| GRAVEL | 2 | 40 x |
Every box is also a line of the console's language, so a pad or a patch can carry its effects in text. The words are the knobs:
