Cut into the beat, on and off
Cut into the beat, on and off: a trance gate with RATE, a DUTY for how long each slice stays open, DEPTH for how far it closes, and SMOOTH so the edges do not click. The sixteenth-note stutter on a pad, the rhythmic chop on a vocal.
As CHOP: X is RATE, Y is DEPTH. Touch to engage, lift to let go, HOLD to keep it.
Four to a socket, in order: sound runs through the slots top to bottom. Open the box and every knob is in real units; BYPASS takes it out of the path without losing its settings; the presets are along the top; any knob learns a controller and gets an automation lane.
| Knob | Range | Starts at | Scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| RATE | 0.5 Hz to 32 Hz | 8 Hz | log |
| DUTY | 0.1 to 0.9 | 0.5 | linear |
| DEPTH | 0 to 1 | 1 | linear |
| SMOOTH | 1 ms to 50 ms | 5 ms | log |
Every box ships with a bank. AS SET is the knobs as you left them; the rest are starting points, each a sound someone wanted often enough to name. Star one and it sits at the front of the bank.
| Preset | RATE | DUTY | DEPTH | SMOOTH |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8THS | 4 Hz | 0.5 | 1 | 5 ms |
| 16THS | 8 Hz | 0.5 | 1 | 3 ms |
| 32NDS | 16 Hz | 0.5 | 1 | 1 ms |
| TRIPLETS | 6 Hz | 0.5 | 1 | 3 ms |
| TRANCE | 8 Hz | 0.3 | 1 | 2 ms |
| STUTTER | 24 Hz | 0.5 | 1 | 1 ms |
| SOFT PULSE | 4 Hz | 0.6 | 0.5 | 20 ms |
| LONG | 2 Hz | 0.75 | 1 | 8 ms |
Every box is also a line of the console's language, so a pad or a patch can carry its effects in text. The words are the knobs:
