Silence between the loud parts
Silence between the loud parts: a noise gate with a threshold, an attack, a hold so it does not chatter, a release, and a RANGE for how far it closes (90 dB is shut; 20 dB is a tidy). The same gate the PCM 16 input has, as a box for anywhere.
As GATE: X is THRESH, Y is RELEASE. Touch to engage, lift to let go, HOLD to keep it.
Four to a socket, in order: sound runs through the slots top to bottom. Open the box and every knob is in real units; BYPASS takes it out of the path without losing its settings; the presets are along the top; any knob learns a controller and gets an automation lane.
| Knob | Range | Starts at | Scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| THRESH | -80 dB to 0 dB | -40 dB | linear |
| ATTACK | 0.1 ms to 50 ms | 1 ms | log |
| HOLD | 0 ms to 500 ms | 30 ms | linear |
| RELEASE | 5 ms to 1000 ms | 80 ms | log |
| RANGE | 0 dB to 90 dB | 60 dB | linear |
Every box ships with a bank. AS SET is the knobs as you left them; the rest are starting points, each a sound someone wanted often enough to name. Star one and it sits at the front of the bank.
| Preset | THRESH | ATTACK | HOLD | RELEASE | RANGE |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TIGHT | -40 dB | 1 ms | 30 ms | 80 ms | 60 dB |
| LOOSE | -50 dB | 2 ms | 120 ms | 200 ms | 40 dB |
| SOFT | -55 dB | 5 ms | 150 ms | 400 ms | 20 dB |
| CHOKE | -30 dB | 0.5 ms | 10 ms | 30 ms | 90 dB |
| GATED DRUM | -24 dB | 0.2 ms | 60 ms | 40 ms | 90 dB |
| TAIL CUT | -45 dB | 1 ms | 200 ms | 120 ms | 70 dB |
| NOISE ONLY | -70 dB | 1 ms | 50 ms | 150 ms | 80 dB |
Every box is also a line of the console's language, so a pad or a patch can carry its effects in text. The words are the knobs:
